Very dry skin? Psoriasis? Eczema? MOB it!
MOB = Moisturizer-Oil-Balm. The best dermatologist’s tip for really, really dry skin.
Skin can get so dry that it cracks. Besides being really uncomfortable, this is inviting to microbes that can penetrate, cause infections, worsen itching and dryness, and complicate management. Applying moisturizers in strategic layers is an effective way to soothe discomfort and protect the skin’s delicate barrier layer.
When layering, you want …
- Penetration first with a rich moisturizer, then …
- Deeper moisturization (its fatty acids are native to skin) and some occlusion with virgin coconut oil (which also has microbiome-safe antimicrobial benefits), and
- End with the most occlusive product — like Boo-Boo Balm — something that really locks in moisture and serves as a protective barrier. This balm adds even more microbiome-safe antimicrobial care with monolaurin.
How to layer your moisturizers?
- Start with Red Better Daily Moisturizer or Creammmy-Rich Intensive Moisture Milk.
- Follow with Know-It-Oil or Oil’s Well virgin coconut oil.
- End with Boo-Boo Balm.
Feel a flare coming?
Follow the same technique but then cover with white cloth or cling wrap and leave on overnight.
If you have a history of sensitive skin…
…don’t guess! Random trial and error can cause more damage. Ask your dermatologist about a patch test.
